Choosing a Payment Gateway for Your Canadian Business

Stripe, Interac, Moneris or PayPal — what actually matters when picking a processor.

Canadian businesses have more payment options than they often realize, and the right choice depends less on brand recognition and more on how your customers actually want to pay.

Stripe and PayPal are strong defaults for online-first businesses because they're fast to integrate and support cards from anywhere. Interac remains the preferred option for many Canadian shoppers who want to pay directly from their bank account rather than a credit card. Moneris tends to fit best for businesses that also process a meaningful volume of in-person transactions and want one processor across both channels.

The real question to ask isn't "which gateway is best" — it's "which gateways do my actual customers already trust and use." Supporting two well, rather than five poorly, is usually the better strategy.
